Altar Servers

“Serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received.” – 1 Peter 4:10

St Joseph’s Parish is inviting students to provide an opportunity to serve their community by becoming an Altar Server at their weekend Masses.

What Does an Altar Server Do?

Altar serving is an important role, assisting the priest in celebrating the Mass. As well as performing practical tasks, Altar Servers also play a symbolic role and can help make the Mass more reverent, leading people closer to God. Altar Serving is a form of prayer and gives you the opportunity to be closer to Jesus in the Eucharist.

Who Can Be an Altar Server?

Any Catholic who has received their First Holy Communion. There will be several training sessions to attend prior to serving at Mass where we will teach you what to do and will have to be attended before you can be rostered on.

If you are interested in training to be an Altar Server, please collect a form from the office or Mrs Buckley, complete and return the Altar Serving nomination form to Mrs Buckley.

Training times will be confirmed after interest has been gathered.

Children’s Liturgy

Children's Liturgy at St Joseph's Church has once again commenced during the Sunday 8.30am Mass. Children are invited to hear the Gospel from a liturgy teacher and will discuss the importance of the Gospel message to their lives in language they can relate to in the Parish Centre. Students return to Mass during the Offertory procession. St Joseph Parish invites you to bring your children and share this information with family and friends.

Survey

St Joseph’s Parish Survey & Morning Tea Gathering

Parishioners and the St Joseph’s Primary School Community are invited to participate in a survey that aims to gather your aspirations and expectations for the future of the St Joseph Parish. This survey is designed to gather data in relation to the Archbishop’s recently stated intention to form a single Parish across Canberra’s Inner North. This short survey is available online (scan the QR CODE with your mobile camera below) or in paper form (copies available in the Church foyer) to be completed by 11 August. You are also warmly invited to a Morning Tea Gathering after Mass on Sunday 17 August to discuss the survey findings (please bring a plate to share).
