Assistant Principal's Message
Dear Parents, Carers and the St Joseph’s Community,
As Holy Week and Easter celebrations conclude, we hope that this sacred time has been filled with moments of reflection, renewal, and joy for each of you. Throughout Holy Week, our students had the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the significance of this season through prayer celebrations and classroom lessons. The Easter season continues right up until Pentecost, and it is important that we continue to focus on the sacrifice Jesus made for us and our own opportunities for renewal and forgiveness.
Reconciliation
This Wednesday evening our Year 3 students will make their First Reconciliation. Please keep them in your prayers as they take this important step in their faith journey.
Staffing Changes
With mixed feelings, we congratulate Hayley Gould on her new position at Canberra Girls Grammar from the start of Term 2 and thank her for contributing so much to the St Joseph's community over the past five years.
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Ana Manenica as the new Foundation White teacher from the start of Term 2. Ana joins us from Good Shepherd Primary, coming with great experience and excitement at starting at St Joseph's.
This week we also farewell our Defence Support Mentor, Emily McFarland and Classroom Support Assistant, Kirsty Fjaks. Emily is going to concentrate on the final stages of her university studies, and Kirsty is taking on a fulltime position at another school. We wish them both all the best.
Free Coffee - Thanks to School Community Council
This Friday the 5 April the Community Council will be sponsoring Bean Culture to provide free tea and coffee to our community from 8am-9:30am. During this time, the uniform shop will also be open for try on and purchase of winter uniforms.
We are a Happy Families School
A reminder that we have signed up to a school membership of this wonderful parenting and professional learning resource.
We encourage all parents and carers to access the St Joseph's Happy Families unique URL and to make the most of the great articles and resources. Full details included in the attached information.
This week, please see linked an article about Teaching Kids to be Kind.
Enrolment Period
It is the time of the year where we are preparing for our 2025 enrolment period, which begins officially at the start of May. Most important is for current families who have enrolments for 2025, to please submit these as soon as possible. Enrolment interviews for current families will begin early in Term 2. Please contact the Front Office if you have any questions.
Athletics Carnival
Our annual Athletics Carnival will be held next Wednesday 10 April at the ovals on Macarthur Ave, O'Connor. The carnival will run from 9.30 to around 1.30pm. Further details and a program for the day will be sent out as an alert tomorrow afternoon.
House Points Challenge
Thank you to all families who contributed to our bottle and can collections in Weeks 5 and 9. We are still waiting on the final tally for Term 1 however, Fatima is currently in the lead with the winning house to receive a special pizza lunch early next term.
Lunchtime Coding Club
Following a call for expressions of interest from families, the decision has been made to introduce a lunchtime coding club for students interested in joining this external program. While introductory coding and stop-motion animation is being introduced as part of our Library / Digital Technology specialist classes, this lunchtime club is an extra opportunity run by Code Club. The club will run on Wednesdays at first break during Term 2, as a trial, with the possibility of it continuing throughout the year. Please see the linked information below for full details.
Yours in Christ,
Beth Hawkes
